WUTHERING BRISBANE

The entry-level Brisbane market is tighter than a Victorian corset.

It’s been a big week of ragebaiting. First, a movie release on Valentine’s Day that was about as tactful as a Frankenstein remake hitting the cinemas on Father’s Day. Then, our Premier put a damper on Queenslanders’ public holiday plans.

With no substitute holiday for ANZAC Day, it’s a standard two-day weekend for all of us in the Sunshine State. For our team, the irony lies in the plot twist. We’re usually the ones working while others are at the beach, but since the law stops the real estate world from trading on ANZAC Day, we’re being handed a rare day of forced downtime. The end of April is still a while away, but it’s never too early for a reminder that on this rare occasion, our flags will have to stay firmly folded.

The loss of a Monday off isn’t the only thing the people on the internet are mourning. Hyped as the 2026 adaption of “the greatest love story of all time” – a marketing campaign that already had purists up in arms – Emerald Fennell’s “Wuthering Heights” was one of the most talked-about films long before it actually hit the big screen.

The reviews have been pointed – more “Saltburn-on-the-Moors” than a grim novel about mud and misery is the overarching opinion. While critics debate whether Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi are too polished for the bleak Yorkshire landscape, I’ve been busy finding ways to link 1840s Yorkshire to the 2026 Brisbane property market.

Catherine Earnshaw choosing the refined Thrushcross Grange over the rugged Wuthering Heights is the 1847 version of choosing a turnkey home in a blue chip location over a renovator in middle-ring suburbs.

The catch? The Brisbane market – particularly in the sub-$1 million bracket – is currently tighter than a Victorian corset. With supply sitting 25 per cent below the five-year average, the competition is more intense than a slow-motion stare-down between two movie stars. We’re seeing one-bedroom apartments steadily surpassing the $700,000 mark in suburbs once deemed affordable, creating a struggle of epic proportions for entry-level buyers trying to enter the market.

The good news? For buyers in a position to look beyond the $1 million mark, the competition is a touch less stiff than the entry-level melee, and a range of genuine opportunities await – let me talk you through our lineup.

209/88 Macquarie Street, Teneriffe

Beginning in the Dakota Woolstore, Unit 209 has just come to market. With three king-sized bedrooms and a sought-after position on the river-facing side of the building, this apartment is impressive in both size and functionality. See you there at 9 AM Saturday.

232/64 Macquarie Street, Teneriffe

If a smaller floorplan is on the cards, you might like 232/64 Macquarie Street. This two-bedroom gem overlooks Macquarie Street, offering lock-up-and-leave living with room to put your own touch on the home when the time is right. We’ll be holding a preview inspection at 9 AM.

20/22 Florence Street, Teneriffe

Last weekend the weather was absolutely not on our side, but tomorrow is looking like the perfect day to picture yourself on the balcony at 20/22 Florence Street, coffee (or drink, we don’t judge) in hand, enjoying the view across the sparkling pool toward the CBD. Join us at 11.30 AM.

5/7 Roche Avenue, Bowen Hills

We’ll be wrapping up our day with a final preview before we launch the campaign for 5/7 Roche Avenue next week. Offering 153 SQM of living space in a corner position with a massive courtyard, this is a rare opportunity in one of the hottest parts of the market – see you there at 1.45 PM.

To end this email on a bit of a reflection – perhaps the biggest discrepancy between Emily Brontë’s novel and Emerald Fennell’s “Wuthering Heights” is that the movie cuts out the second half of the story – the part where the next generation finally finds peace and builds a future.

Real estate is much the same; it’s rarely just about the initial drama of the perfect property, but about the long-term legacy you’re building. Whether you’re looking for a blue-chip Thrushcross Grange legacy or a Wuthering Heights project with soul, the right strategy ensures your story has a much better ending than Brontë’s.

See you at the opens,

Ben
