Despite wearing suits all day, Eagle Street Pier is a far cry from our usual stomping ground, but the closure of Fridays Riverside feels like the end of an era for anyone who reached the legal drinking age (or pretended to) in the last forty years.
As they say, when one door closes, another opens, and in this case, just down the road from our office. There was a brief period where our end of Macquarie Street went rather quiet once the line outside Kin dissipated and the takeaway window shut. Slim pickings for a few hours of the day — but that’s now a thing of the past. Tried and tested local staple Mizu is back with updated interiors and a menu promising the same authentic Japanese dishes we know and love. I’m not afraid to admit I’d become well-acquainted with the Bowen Hills GYG drive-through, but I’m not opposed to swapping my Cali Burrito for a bento box now and again.
It was an equally sad day when Samson & Sophie next door shut up shop after years of being our reliable go-to for early afternoon coffees and, in Lou’s case, an obscene number of brekkie wraps — we all have our vices. Last Friday, she triumphantly waltzed into the office with a cookie that was immediately sampled by the entire team. Wicked & Wholesome — or Good Mother Bad Mother, we’re still not entirely sure of the official name — has our tick of approval.

On the other side of Teneriffe, two very happy buyers are about to receive the keys to their first home in The Cannery. We sold Unit 191, a split-level top-floor apartment before it even hit the market, setting a new two-bedroom building record at $1,200,000. The Cannery has long sat in the shadow of the Woolstores, but over the past couple of years has attracted tremendous interest — notably from first-home buyers and investors — with values rising significantly as a result.

It’s not hard to see why. Just the right amount of heritage character, a 25-metre pool, and an unbeatable location — what more could you want? If a property of your own was your answer, we may have just the thing. Unit 141 has just come to market and the interest has already been overwhelming. If you’d like to take a look, we’ll be there Saturday at 11am.

Tomorrow we’ll be at the Dakota Woolstore from 9am, where three fantastic opportunities await. Later in the day, you’ll have the choice between a versatile residential/commercial space on Helen Street in Teneriffe and a fantastic lock-up-and-leave residence on Terrace Street in New Farm.

Once we’ve wrapped up, we’re heading into the CBD. The team at The Fifty-Six has kindly invited us to sample their latest menu, and if you know anything about us, you’ll know we’ll be there with bells (and stretchy waistbands) on. Expect a full report in next week’s Percival Press.
Talk soon,
