When I hit send on our email after 6pm last Friday night, I really didn’t expect good open rates. We put a lot of effort into writing engaging content, and I dreaded checking our stats after the weekend.
It turns out my gut feeling was wrong. In fact, according to our open rates, it might be our most popular send time yet. Who knew the Percival Press pairs perfectly with knock off drinks?!
When you run a business, switching off completely can be somewhat of an elusive term but we extended the last long weekend of the year for good reason.
When I disagree on a trivial matter with my team (picture all of them pressuring me into decking out the office with Halloween decorations or going bungee jumping in New Zealand for our Christmas celebration), I like to point at the sign on the door in silence and remind them who’s in charge.
Last week, I rescinded that privilege, because there are now two Percivals floating around the office and Lou no longer has a last name none of us can pronounce. Instead of coming up with ideas for the Percival Press in the middle of last week, we were busy exchanging vows. Now you know why last week’s email was sent at the eleventh (business) hour)!

While we pride ourselves on being extremely organised at work, we really can’t claim the same when it comes to life beyond the office. We have no idea when we’ll book our honeymoon (if you have any destination suggestions, we’re all ears) but naturally, we’ve perfectly planned out our Saturday open homes for you. Priorities, I suppose.

We’ll be at 58/70 Vernon Terrace at 9 AM, a top-floor corner apartment in The Cannery that also happens to be across the street from Vinty Bean (outstanding coffee brewed by the loveliest team) and next door to Sippy Tom (come hungry, their brunch menu is phenomenal).

No surprise here, we’ve cancelled our open home at Unit 319. This one bedroom apartment in the Nouvelle building has sold for $760,000 after an overwhelming amount of interest, within days on the market.
I won’t lie, having to disappoint so many keen, often young, buyers racing to secure their first home after this property went under contract is gut-wrenching and one of my least favourite parts of our job.
That having been said, the demand for sub $1 million dollar properties in the inner-city and surrounding suburbs is fiercer than ever – and unfortunately for buyers, so is the competition.
If you have been toying with the idea of restructuring your investment portfolio or even upgrading your primary place of residence, there has never been a better time to consider selling. There’s still plenty of time left before the silly season and more buyers on the hunt than there are properties to satisfy demand.

At 10.40 AM, we’ll be at the Saratoga Woolstore to show you through Unit 207, a lovely one bedroom apartment on the front of the building. If you’re in need of caffeine by then, with a bit of luck, the line outside Kin might have dissipated, but I can’t make any promises.

Our last open home of the day will run from 1.30 PM at 49/390 Simpsons Road. Nestled along the foothills of Mt Coot-tha, this is a tranquil retreat just a short drive from the CBD.
I’ll admit, I start to feel a little uneasy every time I drive past the entrance to those trails – the last time I ran them was The Guzzler in 2021. Several years on, those 100km still haunt me, but if you appreciate the proximity to one of Brisbane’s greatest reserves, you’ll love this apartment!
On that note, I’ll sign off for this week.
Talk soon,
Ben
