Billions of dollars will be invested into new sporting venues and transport infrastructure ahead of the event, mainly along the coastline and neighbouring inland cities of our state, putting regional hubs on the world stage. The Premier may have had to break his ‘no new stadium’ promise, but it is safe to say that David Crisafulli understood the assignment. In his own words “Brisbane needs a world-class Brisbane Arena in the CBD, full stop”. I couldn’t agree with him more.
Having lived in suburbs surrounding The Gabba for years, I am relieved to hear that local residents have been spared the ongoing inconvenience an upgrade would have created. In fact, this Brisbane landmark, once touted as a future Olympic Stadium, will likely be demolished after the Games to make way for residential projects.
What’s better is that the Premier has spared us the embarrassment of carting international visitors and elite athletes to a rickety, albeit upgraded QSAC in Nathan. I don’t know about you, but nothing kills the excitement of heading to a game quite like sitting in traffic or on public transport for ages, knowing that the ordeal will be tenfold worse on the way out.
For now, Brisbane will benefit from a brand new Olympic stadium at Victoria Park and a 25,000 seat National Aquatic Centre at the Centenary Pool in Spring Hill, as well as significant upgrades to existing venues like the Queensland Tennis Centre in Tennyson and Sleeman Sports Complex in Chandler.

At risk of sounding like a news presenter rather than a real estate agent, I can’t help but touch on the Federal Budget. I won’t rattle off the winners and losers in all areas, but of course, I have to mention the Help to Buy scheme.
Legislated last year, single buyers earning up to $100,000 per annum and couples earning up to $160,000 will be able to access the scheme to buy a home, with the government covering up to 40 per cent. The government will take a portion of the home’s equity, which owners can buy out over time. The cap on eligible properties will also be lifted, with price limits dependent on the location of the property.

While it looks like we’ll be spared the monsoon-like weather currently triggering downpours across inner Queensland, the rest of the week is forecast to remain rather wet and exceptionally muggy. This certainly wasn’t on my autumn bingo card, but if you are willing to brave the humidity on Saturday, we’ll be opening a wide range of properties for inspection throughout the day!
Talk soon,
